Europe Trip: Berlin

4 years ago Blake was living in Germany serving a mission.  I have always wanted to visit Europe and even more now since marrying Blake.  I’m sure when he was there he never thought he’d be returning in 4 years later with the neighbor girl 2 streets over!  He has a special love for that beautiful country and the wonderful people there (he is still in great contact with a lot of people over there). We promised each other one day we’d go visit and so we decided why not now!

Of course we both put off packing until late Monday night!  Blake worked a half day Tuesday.  I went running and then spent the rest of the day getting last minute things ready for the trip.  We met at Pres and Sandy’s when he got off and Scott took us to the airport.  Our first flight went to Detroit and then to Amsterdam.  That flight was long and Blake and I maybe slept a total of 1 hour, sleeping on a plane is impossible! Our last flight took us to Berlin and wasn’t too long.  Blake and I were so giddy when we finally got there and didn’t feel sleepy at all.  Blake literally could not stop smiling because he was in heaven being back in Germany.

We rode a taxi to our hotel and Blake talked to the driver the whole way.  His German came back in about 0.2 seconds and it was sooo fun to hear him speaking his German!  We unloaded our bags, freshened up and hit the town.  Blake found us the cutest LITTLE hotel.  They definitely know how to use space well.  Everything is mini but it really is all you need!  We hadn’t eaten in ages so we rode a few trains, buses and underground subways to get downtown.  We ate dinner at a little cafĂ© in a high end clothing store (their version of Nordstroms).  You paid by weight and we ended up spending 35 Euros for just Blake and I to eat salad haha whoopsies!  It was super yummy though!  We headed to see the Brandenburg Bridge after.  It was so beautiful!
Another view a little further down the road
We walked around some parks and saw a few other tourist sights.  This is a monument to the Jewish victims from World War II, there are 2,711 blocks of concrete, each a different size and representing a different person.
We passed a yogurt shop and they had sugar free so Pop and I just couldn’t pass it up!
After we went to see the last standing part of the Berlin Wall which also has a neat museum next to it.  It’s so crazy to see something in person that you’ve read about in books so many times!
Our last place we went to see was Check Point Charlie (where the Americans were to help protect people trying to escape).
We caught our trains and buses back home and our legs were sooo tired from all the walking.  We got back to our very cozy little room and scooted our awesome twin beds together so we could still cuddle.
It was a great first day of our European adventure!

This morning Blake and I woke up at 5 and were ready to go but we didn’t want to wake Pres and Sandy.  We knew we needed to sleep more or we’d pay for it later so we opened the shades and windows and napped on and off while we watched the sunrise and listened to the bustling city.  We finally got up around 7:30 and called Blake’s parents.  After we all got ready we hit the streets in search of breakfast.  They have amazing bakeries around every corner.  The one down from our hotel was AMAZING, the bread here is out of this world.  We sat outside to eat and chatted for a while.  We caught a trolley (kinda like trax) into downtown.  The public transport here is so cheap and sooo convenient!  We went to see the Berlin Dome which is amazing to see.
They have a ton of museums here so we decided to visit a few (thanks to Sandy’s awesome Rick Steve’s travel book we knew which to visit and where to spend our time in each one)  We went to the Neues Museum first.  They have the famous bust of Nefertiti there.  I have seen that in so many books and it was really neat to see in person! (You can’t take pictures there so I just got this online)  We went to the German History Museum after.  They have some really neat World War II memorabilia there.  The museums were awesome but were super exhausting and we needed a break for a bit so we went off in search of lunch.
We ate at a nice little wrap store with table right along the Spree River, so beautiful!  After we decided to take a boat tour on the river.  It was super relaxing and fun to see everything from the backside…..only downer was the guide only spoke German haha so Blake was the only who knew what was going on but we all still had fun!
We had our energy back so we hit another museum, the Pergamon.  They had some amazing Greek artifacts there and it was fascinating!  We were all museumed out and so we hit the town.  We walked around Humbolt University campus.  They had so many cute cafes and fun shops all around.  We stopped to get a little treat for Blake and Pop that they’d been craving all day, currywurst (yellow bratwurst covered in curry and ketchup).  We ate at a little outdoor table looking right at the Brandenburg Bridge.  Blake told me I had to try a bite because we were in Germany.  I did and about died, definitely not a brat girl!  We sat and chatted forever, it was a lovely evening.  We rode back home and then got dinner at a cute Italian place around the corner from the hotel, all the food here is awesome!  We just got up to our rooms and everyone has crashed except me.  We pack lots into just one day but we’re loving it.  Tomorrow we leave Berlin and head south to where Blake served his mission.  I can’t wait to meet all the awesome people I’ve heard so much about!  Still can’t believe we’re in Germany!

Living Up The Last Bit Of Summer

Last Sunday we had dinner with Blake's parents and then went on a Sunday walk to my parents.  Whit and the kids were over there so we all went for a walk and played at a playground.  We went back to Blake's parents after and went over to see the progress on Pres and Jamyn's house.  It's coming together and looking so good!

Monday I worked at Dr. Sands office and then went to the gym.  I met Blake at home after and we went to dinner at Noodles and Company.  Nicole and the kiddos met us for dinner and then we all went back to their house.  Of course the girls had to ride with us in our car!
We all played for a while and then after the kids went to bed it was time to watch Bachelor Pad, the most ridiculous and addicting show ever!  After the show we got talking and didn't end up getting home until 2 am.....whoopsies!

Tuesday morning my 6 am alarm came WAY too fast!  I worked at Dr. Johansen's and then went to the gym.  That night we went out with Blake's parents, Grammy, JJ, Papa Don and Lenae.  We had dinner at Chilis and then went to see 9-5 at Hale Theater.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE their plays and had so much fun!  Blake had to leave on a red eye flight that night and I was totally bummed!  I hate it soooo bad when he leaves me!  I made him snuggle me in bed until the last possible second......we fell asleep and he almost missed his flight haha!  It was my first night sleeping alone at the house (I usually go to my parents when he's gone because I'm a wuss!)  I was so tired that I made it through the night just fine!

Wednesday morning I went running before work and then worked at Dr. Johansens.  After work I drove down to Orem because my best friend, Lisa, was finally home!!! She's been gone all summer doing sales with her husband in North Carolina.  I missed her so much and couldn't wait to see her!!!  We chatted at her house for a bit and then decided what better way to celebrate than water aerobics?!?! We were the only ones in the class haha and it was awesome.  We laughed our heads off the whole time and had so much fun!
Me and that girl could have fun together no matter where we are or what we are doing!  We grabbed dinner after at Zupas and talked each others ear off!  So happy she is finally back!  I got to video chat with Blake before bed but I still missed him like crazy all night!

Thursday I worked at Dr. Dastrups office.  We had a staff meeting which means staff lunch woot woot, my favorite days!  After work I drove to Blake's Aunt Ruth Ann's house for a shower for Lindsay.  Her due date is getting closer and we are dying to meet baby Breinholt and find out the gender!  The shower was so much fun, we have the greatest family ever!
Lindz and Grammy
 A classy bra from Nana:)
 All the cute kiddos!
 Miller ladies
Gram and Baby Hadley....I can't believe how big this girl is getting!  She is so smiley and happy now!!
I was sad to sleep alone again but happy because it was my last night alone!!!

Friday I got my teeth cleaned, funny being on the other end of my job!  I'm one of those weirdos that actually enjoys getting my teeth cleaned though!  I went to the gym after and then took a birthday treat over to the cute twins across the street.  They showed me their new playground in the backyard which is pretty awesome!  I met my mom, Kesh and the boys for lunch at Thai Siam.  I love Thai food so much, it was delish!  I ran a few errands and then Nicole and Mikko picked me up and we headed to the Millers.  Pres and Jamyn met there too and Blake came straight from the airport to met us.  We all headed up to Rockport for a night of fun.
Parks was ready to go!
How many people can you fit on one tube?!?!? We only came off the tube once and it was still a successful ride!
We hardly have any fun together.....
Boys ride....I don't join in on these cause I get so nervous!
And now time for wake skate wars.....
 Whoopsies Blake.....
Little Mikko wanted in on this action!
 Every man for himself!!!
 Me and my buddy!
 The ladies
Never too long til we get the giggles!
The kids all love uncle baypes!
I love summer and am so sad it's almost over!  After a full day of adventure we went to dinner at Redrock followed by dessert time at Coldstone.  It was a perfect summer day!

Saturday morning I was soooo excited because my hubby wanted to join me on my run.  I ran a little faster and he ran a lot slower and we were able to stay together.  It was sooo much fun having some company.  We ran to Dimple Dell and back.  It was a gorgeous run and I was in heaven.  When we got home Blake worked on the yard and I did some deep cleaning in the house.  After we finished our chores we headed over to Pres and Jamyn to help with more remodel.  The boys worked on cabinets and door and the girls did more painting.  Jamyn got us all lunch at Barbacoa and it totally hit the spot.  It was a long day full of lots of hard work but we had fun being all together!  When we got home I took a power nap while Blake got ready.  We grabbed dinner at Sizzler haha that place brings back some childhood memories!  We ran to Walmart to grab some things for Sunday dinner and it took FOREVER, apparently everyone in Utah shops late on Saturday nights!  We relaxed at home the rest of the night, we were both exhausted!

This morning we slept in and then went to church.  In a little while we'll be heading to Sandy's for family dinner with the whole fam!

Horses, Tennis and House remodels

Last Sunday Blake and I had our first Sunday dinner at our house, haha pathetic I know!  We had Scott, Lindsay, Pres and Jamyn over.  We had homemade dough and everyone made their own pizza, it was delicious and super fun.  They had all been in La Jolla all week and we were crazy jealous but it was fun to hear all their stories!  After we had super movie Sunday and watched Shark Week, such a great evening!

Monday I worked at Dr. Sands.  After work I went to Bethany's house and she, her husband
Andy and I headed to Kamas.  We met Blake up there because he had been at Jeremy Ranch playing in a golf tournament for work.  We went to Kurt's and rode horses.  Of course and always Blake had the wild horse and it was a perfect angel and I had the nice calm one and she gave me a run for my money.....sometime I'll be as good as my husband!  We didn't have much daylight so it was a pretty short ride but we had a ton of fun.
It's so pretty up there!  Bethany, Andy and I all had a little spook on our horses but we all lived to tell the tale!  After we got the horses put away we went out for a late dinner at Gateway Grill, that place is so yummy!  What a fun night with fun friends!

Tuesday I worked at Dr. Johansen.  After work I went to the gym.  It was my first time back in a long time and it definitely wore me out!  That night we met up with DJ and Kelsi and went out for sushi mmmmm I love me some sushi!  We went back to DJ and Kelsi for a bit and hung-out.  After we went over to Pres and Jamyn's new house to help tear down some wallpaper.  They are getting closer and closer and it's gonna be awesome!

Wednesday morning I went running before work.  I couldn't do my regular route because my body was still getting back into my routine.  I was sore the rest of the day haha!  I worked at Dr. Johansens.  When I got home I had to take a power nap because I was still exhausted.  That night Blake met up with some friends (Thomas, Bret and Dan) for a nice game of doubles.

I got to babysit Londyn Jane while the boys played.  She is the cutest little girl and I had soooo much fun with her.....I almost threw her in my car and took her home cause I didn't wanna give her back to Thomas!
When Blake and I got home we snuggled up on the couch and watched our fav Bachelor Pad before we hit the hay.

Thursday I worked at Dr. Dastrup's office.  I went to the gym after work and them met up with some hygiene girlfriends.  It's so fun getting together and catching up!  Sweet Blake went to P and J's to help with more house stuff.  When I got home Blake and I snuggled and watched tv.

Friday morning I met up with Tanisha and we took our cars in to get serviced.  We got all caught up on each other's lives and ran to the grocery store while we waited.  After both cars were done I went to the gym.  I met up with Alisha and Savy for lunch after.  We got Jasmine to go and went to the park.  We had a little duck friend that came right up to our blanket to eat with us.  Savy LOVED him!
The weather was perfect and the company was even better!  I love those girls and our little dates together:)!!  When I got home I ran some treats out to my visit teaching girls.  Blake had an awesome week at work and closed a HUGE deal so they let him off early woot woot!  He met up with Thomas and went golfing.  I did some cleaning around the house for a while til Blake got home.  We met Whit and my parents at Cafe Rio to get some dinner to go.  We all went to an outdoor play at the Sandy Amphitheater, Aida.  A kid from our high school, Trent English, was the lead and he did an amazing job!  I've never seen that play and I loved it!  That was the first time we've been to that theater and we loved it.  It is gorgeous and I hope we can go back soon!
My sweet husband totally knows the way to my heart and took me out for sugar-free yogurt on our way home.  We found an awesome one right down the street from our house, score!

Saturday morning I went running.  I was able to do my whole route and did pretty good.  When I got home Blake and I headed over to Pres and Jamyn's to help paint.  They helped us a ton when we fixed up our house and it was time to pay it forward!  The boys used this handy machine to spray the basement, they are professionals!
Thanks goodness they had Jamyn and I to clean, run to Home Depot and save TONS of money, get lunch and do a real "special" paint job on the staircase where they couldn't spray!  The spray works really well but kinda makes a mess......
I swear these two can have fun together ANYWHERE!  Isn't it the best when your family are your best friends!!!
It was a long day but we couldn't have picked more fun people to spend the day with!
We showered off super quick and then headed to Rich and Melissa's to pick up Nixon who we were watching for the night.  We met Thomas, Bre and Londyn for dinner at Dasks my very very favorite!  After dinner we took the kids to a park and they were in heaven!
When it started to get dark we went to Thomas and Bre's and had smores.
Everyone loved them!
Wonderful summer evening!  When we got home we watched the new Chipmunks Movie.  Nixon was soooo cute all night and we had a blast.

This morning we slept in and then went to church.  We're just getting ready to head to Blake's parents for dinner!  Another great week full of fun!

Back To Real Life At Last

Finally this week I'm feeling like myself again.  It feels so good to wake up without headaches and nausea.  It even felt good to finally be back to house work!  So grateful we finally figured things out and got me back to healthy again!

Tuesday night I slept really well.  When I woke up I still didn't have much of an appetite.  I was so sick of TV and just couldn't turn it on so I read a bunch of Germany travel books to help me get pumped for our trip!  I really wanted to get out of the house so Blake and I went to Costco.  It felt so good to be out of the house!  We came home and ate a little lunch.  We rented Sound Of Music for me to watch.  I was really worn out from out all the walking we'd done and I slept through most of the movie.  I woke up to a knock on the door our cute neighbors across the street had done a bunch of sidewalk chalk pictures for us.
They were so excited to show us and totally made my day!  We had some yummy teriyaki chicken for dinner and then went out front with the Lake kids and sat in our camping chairs and ate popsicles.  After the kids left we went inside and watched the Lorax, it was a super cute show.

Thursday I was feeling good but still pretty weak and decided it was probably best to take one more day off work so I could get all my strength back.  After eating a little breakfast Blake took me on a little walk around the neighborhood.  When we got home we called Blake's friend Christian (from Germany) and talked about some trip detail, it got me really excited!  Blake took me out to lunch at Porcupine Grill and I had some delicious soup.  I almost ate the whole bowl which was a big deal for how my appetite had been the past few days.  We ran some errands and I got super car sick so we headed home.  Whit and my mom stopped by to visit for a little bit.  I gave Sadie her birthday present The Lorax (yes I watched her present before I gave it to her haha).  We painted her nails while she watched the movie and she was in total heaven!
Spencer also loved the movie and was all smiles as usual.
We ran down to Nick and Kesha's after and he showed us his new bike he got for his birthday.  He rode all around, it was so cute!  That night Blake met Thomas at the park to play tennis, Blake's new love!  While the boys played Bre and I played with Londyn, I just love love love that little girl!  After the boys game we headed back to our house and had a lovely little BBQ.  I tried not taking any headache or nausea pills before bed.

Friday morning I woke up and felt ok and didn't need any more pain or nausea meds, hooray!  I still couldn't finish a whole bowl of oatmeal after taking my other 8 hundred pills.  Blake took me down the street to the park and we did a few laps.  We met Kesh and the boys for lunch at Cafe Rio.  I took it easy the rest of the day.  That night we met Nick, Kesh and the boys for dinner at Dickey's BBQ.  I hadn't been there before but I thought it was pretty good.  After we went to Classic Skating so the boys could play around.  While we were paying at the counter Easton fell and hit his head on the ground.  While I was holding him trying to console him I couldn't get him to take a breath while crying next thing I knew he was out cold.  Nick got super nervous and so we called 911.  By the time help came Easton was back and seemed to be doing ok.  They still checked him and said everything looked ok.  It was pretty scary but I'm glad it ended the way it did!  The boys went in and played for a bit, Blake was in heaven!

Saturday morning Blake went and played golf with some friends and I went for a 1 hour walk.  I wanted to run soooo bad but I promised Blake I wouldn't!  I did a few things around the house and then ran some errands.  My mom met up with me and we decided to go to City Creek.  With her taking care of my dad and me being so sick we hadn't seen much of each other so it was a much needed girls day!  We shopped til we dropped and had so much fun!  My mom is my fav shopping buddy ever!  When I got home Blake and I had some dinner and then we watched the 3 youngest Lake kids.  We took them in the wagon to get snow cones and then we grabbed some groceries for Sunday dinner.
 Making some wishes!
When we got home we all got in the hot tub.  After changing into jammies we ate snacks, watched cartoons and painted the girls nails.
They are the cutest kids ever and we had so much fun!

This morning we slept in and then went to church.  Later tonight Scott, Lindsay, Pres and Jamyn are coming over for dinner!  Our first Sunday dinner at our house in 2 years haha, I think its about time!
